Not being educated, apparently. 

If you’re starting at 8, you need to go till at least 4pm, plain and fucking simple.

No student should be out of school by 2:25.

No wonder we’re dumb.

That’s hardly any different from the standard 9-3 I grew up with. What am I missing here? High school for me was like 8:30-3 until I started taking Latin at 7:20 AM.

When I was in middle school the day started at 7:15.  Like, be in your homeroom at 7:15 and start actual instruction at 7:25.  We got out at 2:13.  The school I work at now? Starts instruction at 8:00 and lets out at 2:30.  There is plenty of education going on during those hours.  

Sometimes the problem is that parents think that education is only while the child is at school.  Homework for reinforcement, making sure that your child is prepared, reading, family discussions and so on are all just as important to education as the base instruction that you get in the classroom.  If you have a solid educator to learn from (or multiples for older children) and they are making good use of their time in the classroom for instructional purposes, then there is no reason not to get out of the building at 2:30 as a student.
